Eri Silk Cocoons can be spun, used for silk papermaking, creative embroidery, felting, spinning and other crafts. They are from Meghalaya, a state located in Northeast India. Eri silk is also known as ahimsa or Peace silk. The cocoons are reared in village houses and the silkmoth is allowed to naturally emerge from the cocoon. Red Eri silk glows with a reddish-orange colour, because the silkworms are fed on a particular species of ficus leaves (ficus citrifolia).
